Cookie Policy

This page explains what gets stored on your device when you use the recipe website at sofiayuzu.com, and what leaves your browser when a page loads.
It covers the recipe pages and the cookbook pages. The app has its own policy — if you use the tracker at sofiayuzu.com/app, read the app privacy policy, which explains what the app stores to keep you signed in.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Your choice
The first time you visit, a banner asks what you allow. It has three groups:

Accept all and Reject all are two buttons of the same size on the same screen. Customise lets you set the groups one at a time. Nothing in Analytics or Marketing is switched on in advance.
If you press Reject all: nothing from Analytics or Marketing loads — not then, not later in that visit, not on your next visit. Only the Necessary items below run. You still get the whole site: every recipe, every page, the cookbooks. There is no "accept to continue" wall and nothing is hidden from people who refuse.
One thing sits outside these three groups — the cooking videos embedded in recipe pages. They load only when you click them, and clicking is what starts them. This is explained under "Embedded videos" below.

sy-consent never leaves your device. It is not sent to us and we cannot read it.
These are needed for the site to work and to keep the record of what you decided, so they cannot be switched off.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which recipes people read. It loads only if you switch Analytics on. If you leave it off or press Reject all, the script is never requested and Google Analytics receives nothing.

What Google gets: the pages you look at, roughly where you are, your device and browser, and that random identifier. Google says the IP address is used to work out your approximate location and is not stored in Analytics. We look only at totals, never at individuals. Advertising features and Google Signals are off, and nothing from Analytics is used to target ads. The data is deleted after 14 months.
Two different things, and they sound like a contradiction, so here it is spelled out. The _ga cookie can sit in your browser for up to two years — that is Google's default lifetime for the file on your device. The data collected with it is deleted from Google Analytics after 14 months. So a cookie older than 14 months no longer has anything on the other side to be joined to. You can delete the cookie yourself at any time, in your browser or by switching Analytics off.

Marketing
There are no advertising or social media pixels on this site, and this group is empty today. If we ever add one, we will name it on this page first, and it will load only for people who have switched Marketing on.
Embedded videos
Recipe pages show a still image where the cooking video sits. Nothing is sent to Google until you click it. When you click, YouTube loads and may set its own cookies on your device — clicking is your consent for that page. Once loaded, YouTube can read those cookies on other sites where YouTube appears.

You can watch the video or ignore it; the recipe, the ingredients and the method are all in the page text and work perfectly without it.
Fonts
Our typefaces are served from our own domain. Nothing is sent to Google to display text on this site.
Changing your mind
You can change your answer whenever you like. On this page, press:
The same link is in the footer of every page. It opens the panel showing what you currently allow, so you can switch a single group on or off without starting over. Switching something off stops it immediately.
You can also clear or block cookies and site storage in your browser settings. The site keeps working either way — you will just be asked again on your next visit.
How long we remember your answer
Your answer stays in your browser until you change it or clear your browser storage. It is kept on your device only; we do not store it on our side, so we cannot look up what you chose.
We ask again 12 months after your last answer, and whenever we add something new to Analytics or Marketing.

Your rights
Some of what is described here is personal data, so the usual rights apply. You can ask what we hold about you and get a copy, have mistakes corrected, have data deleted, ask us to pause using it, object to anything we do on the basis of a legitimate interest, and withdraw consent at any time — for analytics, by switching Analytics off in the banner. Withdrawing does not undo what was lawful before you withdrew.

How long we take. We usually answer within a week. Billing disputes and anything complex can take up to two weeks. Requests about your personal data are answered within one month (45 days if you are making a request under Washington State law), and any refund we owe you is paid within 14 days of your notice. If a request about your data is unusually complicated we may take up to two more months, and we will tell you within the first month if that happens.
Where we hold nothing that identifies you — which is the normal case for someone reading recipes — we will say so plainly instead of asking you for identity documents.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to a supervisory authority: in the EU, the data protection authority of the country you live in; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (ombudsman.gov.ua).

Languages
The English text of this page is the one we write and update first.
Where we have published a version in another language, that version is the one that applies to you and you can rely on it. If it differs from the English one, the meaning that is more favourable to you applies. Anything that was more favourable to you in an older translation still applies to what you did while that translation was the published one — we do not get to improve our position by being slow to translate. Once the Ukrainian version is published, it applies to users in Ukraine as Ukrainian law requires.
Today this page is published in English. Translations into German, Spanish, French, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Ukrainian are being prepared, and each version will show when it was last updated. Until a version in your language is published, the English text applies. If you spot a difference between two versions, write to admin@sofiayuzu.com and we will fix whatever is wrong.
